French lighting designer wins Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie chateau ruling

A French lighting designer has won a $US600,000 ($755,880) court ruling in a dispute with Brad Pitt over a grandiose redesign of the chateau in Provence that he and Angelina Jolie shared.

But designer Odile Soudant isn’t stopping there.

She says her business went under because of Pitt’s refusal to pay for costly architectural reveries, and she’s now fighting for the intellectual property rights to the Château Miraval’s lighting design.

The French appeals court was told that Pitt had stopped paying the bills two years into the project at Château Miraval, leaving the designer unable to pay employees and contractors.

Included in the ruing amount was 60,000 euros ($89,000) for damage to her reputation.

Pitt’s representatives argue the project was late and over budget and the design was Pitt’s brainchild – not hers.

According to the Telegraph.co.uk, the ruling was made in April 2017 but information on it has only just become public.

Soudant’s legal actions are the latest challenge for Pitt, who is in protracted divorce proceedings with Jolie, although reports from earlier in August suggested their divorce could be on hold.

The couple stayed at the chateau when she gave birth to their twins in nearby Monaco in 2008, launched a wine venture from its vineyards and married there in 2014.

The 35-room Château Miraval was reported to be put up for sale in 2016,
