Kim Kardashian addresses backlash over controversial 'blackface' beauty campaign images

Kim Kardashian has addressed the controversy surrounding the ad campaign for her new make-up line.

Last week the reality TV star shared an image of herself promoting her brand new contour and highlight kit as she competes with sister Kylie’s range.

In the shot, posted on her social media channels, a very bronzed Kim has her profile to camera.

But it wasn’t long before the Keeping Up With The Kardashians beauty was hit with accusations of ‘darkening’ her skin - along with heavy use of Photoshop.

Addressing the comments on Monday, Kim said it was just down to her being more tanned than usual.

"I would obviously never want to offend anyone," the mum-of-two told The New York Times.

"I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off. But I showed the image to many people, to many in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it."

She continued: "Of course, I have the utmost respect for why people might feel the way they did.

"But we made the necessary changes to that photo and the rest of the photos. We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away. Definitely I have learned from it."

After uploading the shots, Kim faced a barrage of criticism.

“You black now sis?" one asked while another pointed out that "she is nowhere near that dark."

A third added: "You don't have to do blackface.”

While others came to her defence, saying she’s naturally tanned because of her Armenian heritage.

"So? Is it illegal to tan now? Jeeeezzz."
