Kriti Sanon: I won’t take up films just because I have spare time

With four years and as many films behind her in Bollywood, actor Kriti Sanon is following a slow, but steady pace. That her contemporaries are on a signing spree doesn’t affect Kriti.

“I don’t want to follow any rules or restrictions. I just follow my heart. There might be a time, when I am doing more films, where I like three scripts in a row that are happening in one year. I would go mad and have just about no time; but then, you can’t predict,” says the 27-year-old actor.

On whether she has ever been advised to give a thought to reading more scripts and signing more films, Kriti says she’s been hearing such things for a long time now. “Trust me, I don’t like sitting at home either. But sometimes, things are not in your hands, and at times, there are films that I have signed, but for one or the other reason, they don’t start immediately. There are films that take a little longer than usual to make. Some require more time to prep for, and you can’t take anything else at the time,” explains Kriti.

The actor, who made her debut with Heropanti (2014), and has gone on to do films such as Dilwale (2015), Raabta, and Bareilly Ki Barfi, adds that one has to listen to their heart while signing a film. “It needs to come from within, when you want to do a film. When I hear a narration, it’s always entertaining, and I think from the audience’s point of view as to whether they would like it or not. And then, I follow my instinct and gut feeling.”

Kriti believes in destiny working behind actors choosing films. “You choose films, but sometimes, films also choose you. So, if you are not doing something for a while, it might be because there is something else, something much better, waiting to land in your lap.”

Naturally, Kriti is quite clear that she won’t take up projects for the heck of staying busy. “I wouldn’t rush into something only because I have time on my hands. It’s not like ‘now I have 3-4 months free, so let’s quickly do some films.’ It always has to be for the right reasons and because you really want to be a part of that project.”
