Every now and then a piece of art comes along that is so iconic it becomes lodged in the public conscious and is a part of our shared history and heritage.
The Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, Michelangelo's David, The Persistence of Memory and then, in March 2017, Cristiano Ronaldo:
Beautiful, isn't it? Oddly, not everyone agreed and the sculptor behind the work, Emanuel Santos, came in for a lot of flak after it was unveiled.
He told the BBC: "It is impossible to please the Greeks and Trojans. Neither did Jesus please everyone."
Adding that making it was 'not as simple as it seems'. OK, fair enough, pal, but is it not your job to make statues?
Having said that, there's a real talent in making a man as handsome as Ronaldo look as bad as he does up there, so that's something.
Anyway, following all the trolling, Spanish sculptor Jose Antonio Navarro Arteaga, has gone and made a new one and he's done a good job:
It looks good, but it looks more like David Beckham to me. Everyone's a critic, eh?
And proving that people are never happy, there are some on social media who are saying that now the statue is too handsome.
So, it looks like our friend Santos was right, you can't please everyone.
The sculptor says he was spurred into making the statue after his Real Madrid-loving son, begged him to do a 'nice' version of the statue. He's not revealed how long it took for him to make it, but Santos famously claimed he made the last one in just 15 days, and it does show, doesn't it?
The statue was commissioned to commemorate the renaming of an airport in Ronaldo's birth-place Maderia.
The 52-year-old sculptor says he had to work from photos to create the piece, as he knew the player would be too busy to sit for him.
He told Spanish daily El Mundo: "I used several photos of Cristiano to work from.
"What I wanted to reflect was his interior strength, when he was preparing to take a free kick or a corner."
Ronaldo couldn't attend the unveiling, but is said to be happy with the new bust, giving it the thumbs up.
