The story goes back in 2010 when Prince William proposed Kate Middleton with a 12-karat oval blue Ceylon sapphire ring. Yes, the same ring that was adorned by Princess Diana when she walked down the aisle to get married to Prince Charles. 

When the two tied a knot in London in a lavish ceremony in 2011, Kate added a gold band next to her studded finger. But despite the Duchess adorning all the heavy ices and gems, we never saw the couple exchanging rings i.e. we never saw the Prince wear an expensive gem on his finger. 

Reason? No, it's not his style but something else. And it isn't the same reason why Prince Williams never holds Kate Middleton's hand.

It turns out Prince released a statement right before the wedding revealing his decision to ditch tradition and go ringless. 

He also mentioned that it is simply down to his personal preference. It was something that the couple discussed. 

Prince William is just not a jewellery person.
