Why You Should Buy A Luggage Scale Immediately

Recently, my friend was asked to pay for her excess baggage while flying to London from Delhi airport. She paid the money as she was expecting her luggage to probably be heavier than the limit. However, she was in for a shock later. After reaching the hotel, she checked the weight of her luggage with the help of the hotel staff and discovered that the luggage weight had actually not crossed the limit.

Well, cases like these may be rare and not all airlines would cheat, it still makes sense to buy a luggage scale and keep it at home. While before every travel, we have a list to shop, from bags, wallets to shoes and beachwear, we don't buy the most important thing required to travel, which is a luggage scale.

To avoid the hassle of not knowing the exact weight of your luggage at the last moment, it is important to have this at home all the time, just like a regular scale or say a thermometer. You may say that you would step on your bathroom scale with the bag and then subtract your weight. Well, such calculation may not be accurate all the time and you could get a heavy fine to pay at the airport.

Airlines are often also blamed for bad maintenance and normal wear and tear of the scales, leading to wrong readings. Although airport scales are supposed to be maintained on a regular basis, it is usually not so. Well, as the saying goes, it is better to be safe than sorry, especially you have been saving money for your vacation for a very long time.

Also, ensure you give space for variation. As mentioned above, airport scales may not be accurate all the time. So, after checking your baggage weight at home, keep some room for inaccuracy. Why do you want to start your travel on a bad note, by arguing with the airport staff? Save your energy for travel fun rather. And, don't forget to pack your luggage scale. You would need them on your way back. After all, you cannot miss out on shopping for the fear of excess baggage.
