Brad Pitt reportedly wants a bifurcation in Angelina Jolie divorce proceedings

Nearly a year after Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, the former couple is getting closer to what Angelina has portrayed as a family healing process. But healing can be about moving on from something painful, which may have to do with why an insider tells InTouch Brad plans to seek a bifurcation in his divorce proceedings as a means of speeding up the process and becoming legally divorced.

"Restoring his status to a single person isn't about Brad going out on the town and dating, but about his beginning a new chapter," says a source.

A bifurcation would allow the two parties to divorce prior to settling the terms of their custody agreement and property divisions. Although the slow pace of their divorce has led some to question whether they'll ever go through with it, the insider InTouch spoke to says Brad wants "to officially take back control of his life" despite a purported "lack of progress in getting close to a settlement." In recent months, Brad has participated in monitored visits with his children, submitted to drug and alcohol testing after acknowledging he had lingering substance abuse issues that affected his family life and conceded to Angelina's reported custody demands. Says the source:

"His life has been at a standstill while he's spent a year appeasing Angelina. He wants to move on to the next phase of his life without having his hands tied by her — and he wants it soon."
