The paramedics tried to rescue the victim, but she died on the spot.

An 11-year-old Asian teenager succumbed to injuries she received after an SUV car driven by a 23-year-old Emirati young man ran over her in Ras Al Khaimah.

Col Ahmad Al Sam Al Naqbi, acting director-general of the central operations room, RAK Police, said they were alerted about the accident on Thursday night 8.30pm.

Captain Hamad Al Shehi, director of accident investigation and enactment, said the initial enactment of the accident showed that the victim was jogging on an internal road.

"She inattentively entered the main road," he said. "The driver did not have enough time to stop the car and ran over her."

The paramedics tried to rescue the victim, but she died on the spot, he said. "The deceased was shifted to the morgue of the hospital for burial by relatives, while the accident file was referred to the bodies concerned for legal action."

Captain Shehi urged all pedestrians to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations.

"Pedestrians are highly advised to cross the road from designated areas, particularly during the night because of poor visibility."

They should also ensure the road is clear and safe to cross. Drivers need to observe speed limit and be focused on the road."
