The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani heads Qatar’s delegation attending that Council of the Arab League summit to be held in Tunisian capital Tunis on Sunday.

A part of the 30th Ordinary Session of the Arab League, the summit will see the participation of leaders from 22 Arab League states.

Meanwhile, members of the Shura Council have hailed Qatar’s participation in the summit, which they said would serve as a platform to iron out political differences in the region.

The summit is expected to reach a broad consensus on several pressing issues in the region, including US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise the occupied territory of Golan Heights in Syria as Israeli land.

This year’s summit being held in Tunis is of greater significance to Qatar which has a deepening relationship with Tunisia. Qatari investments in Tunisia have increased five-fold in the past year.

Qatar’s Ambassador to Tunisia HE Saad bin Nasser al Humaidi stressed the importance of Amir’s presence in the summit. 

In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the ambassador said the convening of the Arab summit comes at a time when Qatar is standing tall in the face of a brutal siege imposed on its people”.

The Ambassador noted that the presence of the Amir at the Arab Summit affirms Qatar’s “important, effective and major role” in the Arab region.

It also reinforces Qatar’s position of never abandoning its commitment to addressing Arab issues and contributing to the joint Arab action, he said.

Qatar, he said, is equally committed to doing its part in accelerating the progress of the Arab people, both through its position and support for development efforts.
Humaidi stressed that the presence of the Amir at the summit is a clear statement that Qatar attaches great importance to the Arab issues and gives priority to Arab national security regardless of the Arab and regional circumstances.

The ambassador said the visit of the Amir to Tunisia, which comes at the invitation of Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi, will be an opportunity to discuss the prospects of constructive and excellent cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
