The Visa Support Services (VSS) Department under the General Directorate of Passports, Ministry of Interior (MoI), on Monday organised an introductory seminar for the Nepalese community to introduce employment visa procedures at the Qatar Visa Centre (QVC) in Kathmandu, Nepal. 

The seminar was held at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and was attended by Major Abdullah Khalifa al-Mohannadi, director of VSS, and Mohamed Ali al-Meer, director of the Labour Inspection Department athe Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA).

Nepal is the fifth country where a QVC has been opened. Earlier, similar centres were opened in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan and India. The Kathmandu centre is the 13th QVC to be opened.

Maj al-Mohannadi said the centre provides facilities for expatriate workers to complete biometric data capture, medical examinations and signing of the employment contract in their home country. Once the initial approval of the visa is issued from Qatar, the worker can visit the centre to complete the procedures.

He noted that the QVC in Kathmandu is one of the largest centres of its kind, providing services to the country's expatriates. 

Al-Meer said expatriate workers are able to sign a bilingual (Arabic and local language) employment contract electronically at the QVC. The centre also provides an explanation to the expatriate about the terms of the contract and the rights and duties of the worker.

He added that the worker will be given a free SIM card with some calling balance at QVC so that he can contact the employer and others once he arrives in Qatar.

Maj al-Mohannadi said QVCs maintain international standards, ensure great transparency and facilitate smooth procedures for visitors. The centre in Kathmandu operates from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Sunday to Thursday.

The QVCs have been set up and operated in co-operation with the MADLSA, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Public Health.
