Filipino fitness group distributes 1,800 iftar packets to motorists

More than 1,800 iftar boxes containing snacks and drinks were handed over to motorists during the 6th annual iftar campaign of community group Filipino Fitness and Health in Qatar (FFHQ) held in Industrial Area on Friday.

Around 40 volunteers helped in the distribution of the meals, mainly to fasting motorists. The initiative was led by FFHQ Chairwoman Marissa Sanchez together with other office-bearers of the group comprising fitness enthusiasts.

“Six years ago, FFHQ held its first ever iftar drive aimed at spreading awareness among commuters about safe driving and the importance of not rushing to break their fast. Since then, we have remained committed to the cause and carried on with the campaign,” Sanchez told QT.

“On our sixth year, our desire to communicate our love and respect on the occasion the Holy Month of Ramadan remains unchanged. On behalf of the FFHQ leadership, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who made this campaign a success. Thank you to our sponsors, mainly Al Meera Supermarket, and to the members who did not hesitate to donate and lend their time to the activity,” she said.

She praised the dedication of the members as the iftar drive was held following their successful anniversary event which featured fitness sessions enjoyed by all.

During the distribution day, the volunteers, many of them proudly donning their FFHQ shirts, positioned themselves on one of the busiest spots in Industrial Area through which many buses and trucks pass every day. Similar to last year’s iftar drive, FFHQ has prioritised distributing iftar meals this year to labourers across various nationalities.

Sharing her experience during the iftar drive, one of the volunteers, Maribeth, said many of the motorists, especially the labourers, has expressed appreciation to their gesture. She said even private car owners also graciously rolled their car windows down and accepted the iftar boxes with smile on their faces.
