Strong earthquake strikes off Yemen, northwest of Socotra island

The quake struck 213 km northwest of Socotra island in the Gulf of Aden. 

An earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck off Yemen on Sunday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported, but there were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties.

In May, Socotra was hit by a powerful cylone, leaving at least 40 people feared dead, roads and buildings destroyed and causing unknown damage to the island’s precious ecosystem.
