Three supermarkets closed down permanently

The director of Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality has ordered the permanent closure of three supermarkets for selling foodstuff without the required licence.

Juma Khamis al-Muraikhi, director of the municipality, issued an administrative decision in this regard against the supermarkets, which violated Law No 3 of 1975 on "Commercial, Industrial and Similar Entities that Conduct Business with the Public".

The Health Control Section of the municipality had detected the violations at the three outlets, two of which were located inside the labour camp of a company while the third was in the Umm Birkah area, according to a press statement from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).

The inspectors also found foodstuff that was not fit for human consumption.

Meanwhile, the MME statement noted that the Technical Control Section of Al Daayen Municipality issued 26 violation reports in September. Five of these reports were referred to Al Shamal Security Department, four were resolved through reconciliation with the violators and 17 were still being processed.

Besides, the General Control Section issued eight violation reports in the same period, two of which were resolved through reconciliation and six others referred to Al Shamal Security Department for necessary procedures.

The Health Control Section also conducted 262 inspection visits during September, when 39 warnings were issued and six complaints investigated. Six violation reports were also followed up.

Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality announced that the Al Thakhira Park would be closed today to spray insecticides. The park will be opened to the public on Wednesday.
