The Foreigner: A Comedy of Confusion and Big Laughs

Want a night of laughs, captivating story-telling and that good-old fashioned theater vibe around town? The Foreigner is packed with wit, hilarious twists and memorable characters, this laugh-a-minute comedy promises a night you won’t forget at the theatre in Doha.

About the Play: What Is The Foreigner About?

The Foreigner describes the story of a dejected bashful man named Charlie Baker who attempts to escape from his married life for a while. Eager for peace and quiet, Charlie heads to a remote fishing lodge in the American Deep South.

So he pretends to be a tourist, says he doesn’t speak English and does whatever it takes to escape the agony of small talk. What initially starts as a harmless fib turns into a farce of crossed signals. Charlie can only stand idly by as he finds himself involved into absurd/silly:

  • A corrupt preacher

  • The preacher’s debutant girlfriend

  • Her not-so-bright younger brother

  • And not even the local branch of the family

Unable to talk but able to listen in full, Charlie inadvertently uses his condition as a way of learning secrets about people around him and turns from an unwilling eavesdropper into something of an unlikely hero. The product is a farce in high gear, guided by timing, physical comedy and a rich script.
