An overseas Filipina worker (OFW) in Saudi Arabia has taken her own life through hanging, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported on Friday, September 28.
In a statement, Consul General Edgar Badajos said that the 40-year-old domestic helper hanged herself at her employer’s residence in Jizan Province, more than 600 kilometers south of Jeddah, on Wednesday, September 26.
Badajos said that the Consulate has contacted the family of the OFW and assured them that government assistance will be provided particularly on the repatriation of the Filipina’s remains.
Badajos added that a consular team is in Jizan to gather additional information on the circumstances behind the death of the Filipina worker.
The Filipina worker left behind two children.
On the same day of the incident, another OFW was gunned down by the security personnel of the company he was working in. The OFW allegedly stabbed to death a Pakistani colleague and his Saudi Arabian national manager.
He also wounded several others who tried to intervene. The OFW was reportedly dismissed from work, which upset him and led to a fight with his colleague.
