If you check a recent hashtag aimed at demeaning the Kingdom and sullying its reputation, you can see 68 percent of the tweets and other social media comments came from foreign accounts, with 20 percent of them originating from Lebanon, 18 from Qatar, 13 percent from Turkey, 9 percent from Iraq and 8 percent from other countries.
In this age when individuals and countries join hands to realize their vested interests and when the rights are denied we try to put a road map to deal with this confusing situation. I like to advise social media activists to ignore meaningless claims on various platforms, not to respond to hashtags and not to share views of the Kingdom’s enemies.
At the same time we have to support calls to block Twitter considering its mischievous role in triggering conflicts and crises and undermining national security. We should also work on a project to revive and strengthen the spirit of optimism among new generations before losing their direction, using all possible means and methods.
Countries around the world must expand their areas of cooperation and coordination to address such challenges and find solutions to them as well as to combat these manifestations and trends that are alien to our societies known for their ancient civilizations, lofty values and rich heritage.
