Google may follow Apple, could launch three smartphones in 2018

Amidst the entire hullabaloo regarding Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL issues, a new report has emerged stating that the search giant may launch as many as three smartphones next year.

Droid Life has reported that the three Pixel devices come with codename Crosshatch, Albacore and Blueline. It is worth noting that Google has been codenaming its Pixel/Nexus smartphones with species of fishes.
For those unaware, the original Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were codenamed as Sailfish, Marlin, Walleye and Taimen.

One of the codenames, Crosshatch, is seen mentioned in the Android Open Source Project or AOSP documents. Interestingly, the document also mentions another codename 'Wahoo'. There is no information about this device yet. However, the website speculates that it could be one of the 'leftover' devices from last year and might not be a part of the devices that are to be launched in 2018.

It has been further speculated that out of the three Pixel smartphones, two could be 'premium' models and the third one could be a 'high' tier model.
Whatever the case might be, we can only hope that Google doesn't face the heat for its smartphones like what it is facing right now.

Among several issues, one unique incident happened where the company recently shipped a faulty Google Pixel 2 to a user. According to r/dpezet on Reddit, the user ordered a Google Pixel 2 Quite Black colour variant with 128GB storage. The search giant did ship the device but a faulty one. The user says that on unboxing the smartphone, a slip from the quality control line was found inside the box stating that the device failed testing due to cosmetic changes.

It is worth adding that although Google is facing all the heat for issues in its smartphones, it has given the manufacturing responsibility to the Taiwanese tech firm HTC. The Pixel 2 XL is being made by LG. They both, however, come with 'Made by Google' brand.
