Dubai Police set to receive amnesty seekers in UAE

All preparations are set to receive people wanting to avail the amnesty granted by the UAE Government, said a top official from the Dubai Police.

Colonel Ali Salem Al Shamsi, director of the general department of offenders and insurgents at the Dubai Police, said they have prepared instruction leaflets in several languages to be distributed at various locations including shopping malls and police stations.

The department had arrested 10,310 violators and infiltrators in the first half of 2018, revealed Col Al Shamsi. "A total of 40,056 people were caught in 2017 for residency law violations while in 2016, the number was 55,447," he said.

He called on people who are violating the residency laws to avail the opportunity to rectify their residency status during the three-month amnesty announced by the government from August 1 to October 31.

Col Al Shamsi said the department received several inquiries related to the procedures to the regularisation of visa status, exiting the country without penalties and how to close absconding cases.

"People can either leave the country voluntarily without prosecution or rectify their legal status by paying the required fees or voluntarily depart, without incurring a ban. Individuals have to approach the immigration authorities of their respective emirates to exit the country," he added.
