Dubai wins bid to host prestigious World Chambers Congress in 2021

Dubai has clinched the bid to host the 12th edition of the prestigious World Chambers Congress, which will be held in 2021 to coincide with Expo 2020.

According to the International Chamber of Commerce's (ICC) World Chambers Federation (WCF), Dubai outbid three other finalists Ethiopia, Kenya and Iran to host the 3-day event.

The biennial Congress brings together officials from more than 14,000 chambers over 100 countries to share best practices, exchange insights, develop networks and address the latest issues affecting their respective communities.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, said: "Dubai offers the best possible infrastructure, community and environment to host a global event like the World Chambers Congress. I have no doubt that the emirate, with the support of Dubai Chamber, will stage an exceptional event that offers delegates a truly unique experience."

Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General of Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, said the emirate has proven time and time again that it has so much more to offer as it embraces the future by adopting innovative technologies and forward-thinking strategies.

"We are confident that the emirate's reputation as a global trading hub and international center for aviation and logistics will meet the Congress' expectations for world-class services that fall in line with the initiative's efforts to contribute in the move to achieve global sustainable development," said Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy.

Dubai's bid was presented by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The chambers were evaluated on five criteria including their suitability as a co-organiser, logistics abilities, budget and funding, congress programme innovation and marketing and communication capabilities.

"Dubai's successful bid to co-organise the 12th World Chambers Congress is a clear indication that the UAE has gained global recognition of its efforts to advance its economy and become an international hub for future industries. As one of the world's largest membership-based chambers of commerce, the Dubai Chamber will work to ensure that [the country] delivers a World Chambers Congress like no other by showcasing the tremendous potential that Dubai has to offer," said Hamad Buamim, president and CEO of the Dubai Chamber.

It is never too early for chambers to place their intent to bid for future Congresses. Interests for bidding are already being received by WCF for the 13th edition of the World Chambers Congress in 2023 upon the event's return to Europe, as well as the 14th edition in Asia for 2025.

The 11th edition of the World Chambers Congress will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 12-14 June 2019, and is co-organised by the Brazilian Commercial and Business Associations. Registration is slated to open in June 2018.
