How 'Sheikh Zayed', 'falcon' sign changed this Indian expat's life

Medammal has also shot a documentary Falcon and Falconry in the Gulf to create awareness about preservation, importance and behaviour of the raptor.

Catching deadly snakes in desert
This time, Zubair Medammal is in the UAE on a different mission. "I was invited by an Abu Dhabi royal family to help them tackle the menace of snakes at their farm in Al Khaznah. My return to this place after 25 years, and that too in the 'Year of Zayed', makes this visit an extraordinary affair. Then I was booted out and today I got a red carpet welcome."

Medammal is here at Al Khaznah with renowned snake catcher Shamsuddeen Cherpulasseri.

"Cherpulasseri is a snake expert for more than 30 years. We were able to manage the situation and secure the farm. The sheikhs were worried about the safety of their children. Desert snakes are very venomous. What made our work harder was to do it in hot sun while fasting. However, we are both happy to have been able to do good for the people."

Medammal is set to do research on venomous snakes, which will see him spend more time than before in Abu Dhabi. "I have great support from my family for this. I can't be more thankful to them."
