Authorities' Instagram followers proposed stricter punishment such as jail time and license revoking for careless driving
Abu Dhabi Police on Sunday shared footage of a reckless driver who caused a three-car road smash, calling on the public to offer their feedback on suggestions that could lead to lesser accidents.
The video, posted on the authorities’ official Instagram page, shows the motorist swiftly changing lanes on what appears to be a highway in the capital, wedging the car between two vehicles on either side and causing two wheels to fly off the road due to the force of impact.
The three vehicles are seen sliding off to different sides of the road, narrowly missing other drivers.
In the caption below the video, Abu Dhabi police asked their 71,000 followers to share ‘suggestions and advice that could lessen such accidents and maintain safety’.
Some users called the incident a ‘criminal’ offense due to the driver appearing to have purposely hit both cars, endangering the lives of others on the road. Others proposed stricter punishments such as jail time and license revoking for careless driving.
In March, the General Command of the Abu Dhabi Police activated a national early warning system which sends e-messages to motorists in the event of dangerous driving conditions.
The messages aim to alert drivers and those living in nearby areas to be cautious in cases of fog, unstable weather and accidents that might cause traffic jams.
