Coral Beach Resort Sharjah just signed the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. This move makes it the only hotel in the UAE to join the global initiative. The resort now aims to cut its carbon emissions significantly over the next decade.
This milestone directly supports the UAE’s broader push for environmental sustainability. Eco-conscious tourists and local residents care deeply about green hospitality options. The resort sets a strong example for other businesses across the emirates.
Area General Manager Iftikhar Hamdani shared his pride in a recent statement. He said the achievement recognizes their strict environmental commitments.
"Our efforts illustrate our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint," Hamdani explained.
He highlighted their innovative waste management system and an on-site water bottling plant. The hotel also runs energy-efficient systems and hosts tree-planting events.
Just last year, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority honored the hotel. The resort won the Sustain Sharjah category at the 2025 tourism awards. That specific award recognizes strong actions protecting climate, waste, culture, water, nature, and education.
Understanding the Glasgow Declaration
World leaders launched the Glasgow Declaration at COP26 in 2021. It unites the global tourism sector to fight climate change. Signatories pledge to reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030. They also aim to achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.
The agreement features five distinct pathways for participating organizations. These include measuring impact, decarbonizing operations, regenerating nature, collaborating, and financing green projects.
Looking Ahead
Coral Beach Resort Sharjah will create a structured climate action plan within 12 months. Hotel management plans to report their sustainability progress annually. They also plan to share their successful practices with other regional hotels. The team hopes to inspire the entire UAE hospitality industry to follow suit.
