An astounding number of students who attempted the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) Grade 10 examinations from the UAE have scored 90 per cent marks and above. Most schools have also secured a 100 per cent pass results.
The board announced results of Grade 10 board examinations on Tuesday for the examinations that took place from March-April. Over 8,100 students attempted the exams in 23 examination centres across the UAE this year.
Furthermore, this is the first batch of students who attempted the boards after the CBSE did away with the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE).
"Teachers and parents took extra care for this batch of students due to the sudden change in the exam pattern and the result was excellent," explained CEO of Indian High School, Dubai, Ashok Kumar.
The Indian High School had a 100 per cent pass result among 783 girls and boys. A total of 238 students of the school scored 90 per cent and above, according to Ashok Kumar, and 476 students scored 80 per cent and above. School topper Sreelakshmi Gangadharan secured 98 per cent and Shreya Ramesh Kamat came in second with 97.4 per cent.
"Seven students secured 100 in social science, 11 students topped in French with 100, two students secured 100 in Mathematics, two students secured 100 in English, and one student secured 100 in Science," added Kumar.
Meanwhile, GEMS CBSE schools recorded a 100 per cent pass. A total of 2,708 students appeared for the exams, of which 21.3 per cent has scored 90 per cent and 48.7 per cent scored between 75 and 90 per cent. GEMS Education had three toppers who secured 98 per cent marks.
Students Sara Iqbal Ahmed Ansari, The Millennium School, Dubai; Arunima Mohanan from GEMS Our Own English High School, Dubai; and Muskaan Samal from GEMS Our Own Indian School scored 98 per cent.
Michael Guzder, vice-president, GEMS Education, said: "This year, the remodelled examination assessment pattern was a worrying factor but solving of past papers and plenty of practice examinations and tests has definitely helped pupils score high marks. Parents were apprehensive as well but are extremely relieved that there were no retests and that the results have been received on time."
