Connie Watton, is a 49-year old Filipina housekeeper of billionaire Stephen Schwarzman, the CEO of private investment firm Blackstone. She lived in the borough of Queens in New York with her husband.
Connie was standing on the subway platform in the path of an approaching train when a schizophrenic woman named Melanie Liverpool-Turner pushed her, killing Connie instantly as bystanders watched in horror. Witnesses immediately alerted police officers, who apprehended the suspect in the station.
Many of those who saw the attack were visibly shaken. Some witnesses said the victim and the suspect were involved in a dispute before the fatal shove, authorities said.
"This is a strong case, with multiple eyewitnesses," said Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Matthew Thiman.
Connie's killer has been arrested and is now being held without bail.
Meanwhile, Schwarzman’s son, Teddy, described Connie Watton in a Facebook post as one of the best people in the world.
“Connie came to America legally from the Philippines when she was 18 years old, became a US citizen, and has had one job for her entire short life – working in my family’s home as a housekeeper, friend and surrogate mother for the past thirty years,” Teddy added.
