A fire broke out in a villa in Sharjah's Al Qadsiya area this evening.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire erupted at 4:30 pm and the civil defence rushed to the site of the incident after receiving a call.
Firefighters from various fire stations are battling the flames. Plumes of smoke could be seen rising from the villa.
The fire broke out in the home of an Emirati family and had claimed the lives of three women, according to initial reports. The toll is expected to rise.
Police have recovered the bodies and are trying to rescue other family members. One of the rescued is in critical condition.
An official comment on injuries or fatalities is awaited.
