Husband 'killed wife on luxury cruise ship because she wouldn't stop laughing at him'

A man killed his wife on a cruise ship because she wouldn't stop laughing at him, according to FBI documents.

Kenneth Manzanares was charged with 39-year-old Kirsty's murder after a witness discovered the couple's room splattered with blood.

The pair, from Utah, US, were aboard a Princess Cruises ship to Alaska on Tuesday night when the killing occurred, ABC News reports.

According to FBI Special Agent Michael Watson, security and medical personnel "responded to an incident" in the cabin occupied by the Manzanareses aboard the Emerald Princess on Tuesday just after 9pm local time.

Kirsty was found with a severe head wound and pronounced dead at the scene, according to court documents.

A security officer on board the boat told investigators he noticed blood on Mr Manzanares' hands and clothing.

According to the affidavit, the officer placed the man in handcuffs and detained him in an adjoining cabin.

The security officer told investigators other witnesses had entered the cabin earlier and seen blood "everywhere".

One witness said that he saw the woman lying on the floor covered in blood and that when he asked Kenneth what had happened, he said: "She would not stop laughing at me."

"Later, when Manzanares was being processed during a search by the FBI for physical evidence, he spontaneously stated: 'My life is over,'" Agent Watson said.

Manzanares attended his first court appearance on Thursday afternoon.

His preliminary hearing was is scheduled for August 10 and a judge did not grant him bail.

In a statement, Summit Sotheby’s International Realty, the company Kristy worked for, said: "It is with very heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of a member of our real estate family.

"We will miss Kristy’s vibrant personality, welcoming smile, kind heart, and compassion for everyone she met."
