Major Carriers Suspend Key Regional Routes
Major Indian airlines have extended their flight cancellations to Saudi Arabia as regional security concerns persist. Air India, IndiGo, Air India Express, and Akasa Air announced longer suspensions covering several Saudi cities. The extended disruptions affect thousands of passengers booked on routes to Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Madinah. All four carriers stated they are monitoring the evolving security situation and prioritizing passenger and crew safety. Air India and Air India Express cancelled all flights serving Riyadh, Dammam, and Jeddah until October 20. Both airlines are offering affected travelers full refunds or complimentary rescheduling options for their disrupted journeys. Meanwhile, IndiGo extended its flight cancellations for Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Madinah through October 24. IndiGo teams are notifying customers directly using the contact details provided during the booking process.
Refund Policies And Widespread Aviation Disruptions
Akasa Air also extended its suspension of flights serving Riyadh until October 24 and Jeddah until October 21. The airline promised to credit full refunds to original payment sources within seven days for cancelled tickets. Airlines advised passengers who booked through third-party travel agents to contact those partners directly for assistance. Travelers should verify their flight status online and update their contact details before heading to the airport. These extensions follow a week of severe disruption across Saudi Arabia's commercial aviation network. Aviation analytics firm Cirium reported that 2,018 out of 6,608 scheduled Saudi departures did not operate recently. That figure represents a 30.5 percent cancellation rate across the Kingdom between October 8 and October 13.
Peak Disruptions Hit Domestic And International Schedules
The flight disruptions peaked sharply on October 11 following security incidents at King Khalid International Airport. On that single day, 56.8 percent of all scheduled departures from Saudi airports failed to operate. National carrier Saudia recorded 646 cancelled departures during the six-day period, while flynas recorded 327 cancellations.
