Man with overweight bag blocks passengers from exiting Russian plane

Passengers in the back of the cabin were stuck in their seats.

In the aftermath of the Russian plane inferno that left 41 passengers dead, reports emerged that several passengers stopped to retrieve their luggage as the plane burnt.

One of the survivors, Dmitry Khlebushkin, is facing fury 'for blocking other passengers from escaping' after he was filmed leaving the Moscow Sheremetyevo airport with his 'overweight' backpack.

According to witnesses, passengers in the back of the cabin were stuck in their seats because those sitting in the front slowed down the escape as they stopped to grab their hand luggage.

Several dramatic footages show passengers, who managed to jump out of the burning plane in time, running to safety with their luggage while other still trying to escape.

According to reports in Daily Mail, Khlebushkin is being criticised online after it was revealed that only three passengers behind him, who was sitting in seat 10C, survived the inferno. Earlier it was reported that Khlebushkin demanded a refund for the flight, which never reached Murmansk, and said the airline 'consists of heartless and unprofessional people'.

One online commenter said: 'He saved his backpack. And he is looking really great, knowing that everyone further back than the 11th row died'.

While another person wrote: 'The first passengers tried to throw out their bags from the cabin and then to slide down. This is why there are delays'.

Russian officials are still probing the cause of the tragedy, terrifying footage emerged showing the plane bouncing on the runway as it tried to make an emergency landing and bursting into flames soon after. Two children and one crew member named Maxim Moissev were among those killed. Mossiev died while trying to open a door at the rear of the plane so that passengers could escape.

While one stewardess, Tatyana Kasatkina, 34, saved several lives after she kicked open an exit door and grabbed passengers by their collars to push them to safety. "When the plane stopped, the evacuation immediately began. The fire was visible.  Everyone was shouting that we were on fire, but there was no fire inside the cabin at this moment. I kicked the door out with my leg and pushed out the passengers so as not to slow the evacuation. Just to hurry them up I grabbed each of them by the collar from the back," Kasatkina said.

The stewardess added that soon thick black smoke billowed as people crawled to get out. Kasatkina said, "Everyone had jumped from their seats and moved forwards, although the plane was still moving at a good speed," adding that there was a heavy hail storm after takeoff and the plane was struck by lightning. "There was a flash followed by popping. A bright light flash. We took off and got into a cloud and it was hailing. There was such a noise outside [as hail hit the plane]," she added.
