Married teacher bedded pupil in CLASSROOM: ‘I thought I was making him happy’

The married 34-year-old – who has not been named – had sex with the boy several times in 2016 when she worked at Sydney Grammar School.

She struck up a relationship with the boy because she was “very lonely” and suffering with mental health issues, New South Wales District Court heard.

Warnings had already been given about her conduct with students and she had been told not to make sexual references or comments with sexual connotations before she bedded the student.

She was facing a sentence hearing after pleading guilty to five counts of sexual intercourse with a person under care.

Crying, she told the court she struck up the relationship with the boy, 17, at the end of 2015 – saying it “filled a need”.

TEACHER: The woman, 34, bedded the student while she was feeling 'very lonely'

The pupil cut off the relationship with her in April 2016, telling her he didn’t love her anymore and he didn’t want to speak to her.

She then responded by bombarding him with messages, to which he responded by calling her a “f***ing monster”.

The teacher claimed the affair was linked to her “cold” marriages, depression and battles with health issues.

She told the court: "He said he was lonely, that he had trouble talking about things to other people.

"I myself was very lonely at the time and I think it probably filled a need in me to see that I was helping someone else who was sad and lonely as well."

The teacher added: "It seemed to undermine everything I thought was happening and I had gained a sense of meaning in my life from thinking – wrongly, I wrongly thought – that I was making him happy.”

The teacher and pupil met secretly at her home, in a classroom and in a school storage cupboard.

She kissed the pupil on the lips when he visited her flat for lunch and beer in early 2016.

It is claimed the student became afraid to end the relationship as he feared she may self harm.

After he did break off the relationship, she claimed her repeated texts were her way of trying to say she was sorry.

The case will return to court on December 13.

Earlier this year, teacher Alice McBrearty was jailed for sleeping with a boy, 15, after she performed sex acts on him in her car.
