Second Australian confirmed dead in London terror attack believed to be young nanny Sara Zelenak

A second Australian has been confirmed as among the seven people killed in the London terror attack.

Sara Zelenak, from Brisbane, became separated from her friend after the terrorist's van ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old nanny, who lives in London, was leaving a bar with pal Pri Gonçalves when carnage began and they began to run.

Ms Gonçalves said they lost each other in the panic and she believed Sara may have been slowed down in her escape by her high heels.

"I ran thinking she would be running with me but I looked back and she wasn’t there," she said.

Friends had made desperate appeals for help on social media.

One family friend wrote on Facebook: "She got separated from her friends and has not been seen since.

"Her phone has rang with no reply and now the battery must have gone.

"She calls her mum daily. It's been over 24 hours with no news from the consulate."

But sadly the Australian government confirmed tonight a second national was among those killed.

According to local media, the victim is understood to be Sara.

In a statement the Minister for Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop said: "The Australian Government is deeply saddened to confirm that two Australians have been killed in the London terrorist attack."

We continue to work with the United Kingdom authorities who have asked that we await official confirmation of the identities of the victims, and for the families to be officially notified, before we release their names.

"The Australian Government has remained in close contact with the families who have requested privacy."

Friends of Sara have raised almost £9,000 to help with the search and flying her family out to the UK.

Speaking to media outside the family’s home in Ormiston, east of Brisbane, Ms Zelenak’s aunt Tara said she was an "absolutely beautiful" girl.
