Aurangabad businessman spent daughter's marriage budget on building 90 houses for homeless

Business tycoons, politicians and celebrities spending crores on weddings is no longer news, is it? It may make headlines, but you wouldn't be amused.

Recently, Karnataka's mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy spent Rs 500 crore on his daughter's wedding and that too when a major chunk of Indian citizens were waiting in queues outside banks and ATMs, thanks to Narendra Modi's demonetisation drive.

But not all rich people believe in fancy display of wealth when marriage can actually take place in a budget of Rs 500. Read this IAS couple's story to know what we are talking about.

Ajay Munot, a rich wholesale trader of cloth and wheat, is one of those who had planned to spend Rs 70-80 lakh on his daughter's wedding. However, he ended up constructing 90 houses on two acres of land for homeless people.

Instead of throwing an exorbitant wedding, he decided to help the poor. But he ensured he donated the houses to people who met three conditions- those who are poor, live in a slum and are not addicted to any intoxicants.

Every house is 12 X 20 square foot and has two windows and two doors along with light fittings. It was Munot's daughter Shreya and her husband who handed over the keys to the homeless people after the wedding.

According to Shreya, who fully supported her father's decision, it was the "biggest gift for her wedding", reported ANI.
