BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad has been inspecting Bangalore roads for potholes in the night since Sunday. He said that the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) have been creating craters due to an irresponsible digging of roads.
The water board is expected to pay up for the road fixes as demanded by the BBMP chief. As per the commissioner, the inspection led to evidence showing that water leakage from BWSSB pipes and road cutting has led to the uncontrollable pothole situation in the city. Telecommunication companies have also been deemed responsible for incomplete road-reconstruction work resulting in damaged roads. Given the recent weather crisis and heavy rainfall, the situation on the road has only worsened.
The drive that was initiated to inspect six zones, started on Sunday and ended on Thursday night.
According to the civic body, 5,067 potholes were found, mostly in east and west zones. The deadline set by the BBMP chief was August 27 to fix the potholes.
