Bengaluru Policewoman Hailed As Hero After Breastfeeding An Abandoned Baby Found In Plastic Bag

In what can be described as a humanitarian gesture, a woman police constable in Bengaluru breastfed an abandoned baby to save his life. The baby was found wrapped in a plastic bag, abandoned near a construction site in Bengaluru's Electronic city, reports The Hindu.

The first to arrive at the site was Assistant Sub-Inspector Nagesh R, who said that the baby was in a bad shape, covered in blood with his umbilical chord wrapped around his neck.

Nagesh brought the infant to a hospital nearby where he was treated by the doctors for free. After that, he brought the baby to the police station where Archana, a lady constable breastfed the infant.
Archana had recently returned to work from her maternity leave. She is a mother to a three-month-old boy.

The baby was named Kumaraswamy after Karnataka's new chief minister HD Kumaraswamy. Nagesh told The Hindu, "It is the government's baby now, and we decided to name him Kumaraswamy as it would be under the care of the government."

The newborn was later handed over to Shishu Mandir, a children's home in Bengaluru.

Bengaluru City Police praised Archana on Facebook. "We salute the Mother in our Lady Police Constable Archana of Bangalore City Police who rescued an abandoned new born and breastfed the infant, she had just returned from Maternity Leave. #ThankYouArchana."

Soon praises started pouring in for the policewoman. One user commented, "Lots of respect to you madam." Another one wrote, "Long live humanity."
