The daily cases of Coronavirus remained above 11.5k in India for the second straight day on Monday, taking the total tally of the country to 332424. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 325 deaths and 11,502 new COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours. With this addition, the death toll has now jumped to 9,520.

The total number of cases in the country now at 332424 including 153106 active cases, 169798 cured/discharged/migrated patients.

It is to be noted that India is in the fourth position in terms of infections, among other countries, while at the ninth position in the world in terms of the death toll.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) by 9 am on Monday, total 57,74,133 samples were tested and 1,15,519 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Worst Affected States

Maharashtra, the worst-affected state, has over 1 lakh cases while Mumbai is still the worst affected city. Union Minister Piyush Goyal also informed that Mumbai local trains will resume services from today but the facility will only be available for the essential staff recognized by the government.

 Following Maharashtra is Tamil Nadu (44,661) and Delhi (41,182). India is the fourth country worst-hit by coronavirus, after the United States, Brazil, and Russia.

The COVID-19 tally climbed by over 10,000 and breached the 40,000 mark in just six days in Delhi with an average of over 1,600 new cases on a daily basis, a sharp spike from the 79 days it took to reach the 10,000 mark, according to an analysis.

States To Increase Testing

After a review meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, LG Anil Baijal, and other authorities on Sunday, Shah has called a meeting of all political parties active in Delhi on Monday to review Covid-19 situation in the national capital. Assuring assistance to the capital city, he said that the testing for the virus would be doubled in Delhi in the next two days and subsequently increased by three times.

Concerned over the mounting number of Covid-19 cases, the Telangana government on Sunday decided to conduct 50,000 tests in and around Greater Hyderabad over the next week to 10 days.

Globally, over 7.9 million people have been infected with more than 4.3 lakh deaths.
