‘Sanju Is My First Choice’: Ashwin Responds to Samson’s Critic

Ashwin Responds to Social Media Criticism

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has responded with a witty remark to a social media user questioning his continued support for Sanju Samson. The exchange followed India's five-match T20I series against New Zealand, where Samson struggled to maintain consistent performances. A fan tagged Ashwin and suggested that his preferred batter had failed to deliver throughout the series. Ashwin replied, “Sanju mera first-choice, tumhara full-time obsession,” meaning that Samson was his first choice while the critic appeared to be constantly focused on him. The response quickly attracted attention among cricket followers.

Samson's Performance Against New Zealand

Samson finished the five-match series with 107 runs from five innings. He began with an impressive 67-run performance in the opening match but could not maintain the same momentum in the remaining games. His subsequent scores were 14, 18, 4 and 4. The two low scores in the final matches added to discussions about his place in India's T20I batting order. His inconsistent returns also encouraged fans to debate whether the team should consider alternative opening options.

Competition for India's Opening Position

The selection discussion has also brought young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into focus. He featured in two matches during the series, scoring four and 45 runs respectively. Some supporters have called for more opportunities for the young player, while others continue to back Samson's experience. India's batting combination also underwent changes during the series, with Samson moving between the opening position and number three. These developments have added further discussion around the team's plans for the top order.

India Wins Series Despite Late Defeats

India secured the five-match T20I series 3-2 after winning the first three encounters. New Zealand responded by claiming victories in the final two matches, preventing India from completing a clean sweep. Samson's performances became one of the major talking points after the series, alongside questions about India's batting combinations. Ashwin's public response has added another dimension to the discussion, showing that he continues to back the wicketkeeper-batter. The final decision on team selection, however, remains with India's management.
