Coronavirus Pandemic | 33 healthcare workers test COVID-19 positive at Max Hospital in Delhi

In a shocking news, at least 33 healthcare staffers, including two doctors, have tested positive for the dreadful coronavirus at the Max hospital in Delhi's Patparganj.

In a statement, the Max Hospital said that the 33 healthcare staffer includes two doctors, 23 nursing staff and eight technicians and support staff.

"As part of our on-going routine Covid-19 testing for all healthcare workers, admitted patients and new admissions, a total of 33 healthcare workers have tested positive since the exercise began earlier this month at Max Hospital, Patparganj. All of them have been shifted to our COVID-19 only hospital at Max Hospital, Saket, east wing as and when their tests confirmed," the Max Hospital said in a statement, as reported by News 18.

"The 145 nurses from Max Hospital, Patparganj were quarantined for 14 days in a private hostel, where they live. The hostel was sealed and declared a containment zone by the local authorities. Since the occupancy is minimal, the hospital is functioning with available staff," the statement further read. 

 

This is not the first time when healthcare workers in the national capital have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Earlier 29 healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, paramedics and other staff of Delhi's Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital had tested positive for the dreadful infection. 

Before that, a doctor, a nurse and one staff in support duty in Saket's Max Hospital had tested positive for the coronavirus while 58 health workers at Jagjeevan Ram Hospital also tested for coronavirus.

The first case of a healthcare worker testing positive for coronavirus was reported in March after a mohalla clinic doctor, alongwith his family, were found infected from COVID-19. Following the incident, at least 800 people were quarantined by the Delhi government.

Delhi has emerged as one of the coronavirus hotspot in the country. As per the latest data available at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 2,918 have been infected by the virus while 54 have lost their lives.
