A man in Punjab died after contaminated by Coronavirus on Wednesday. This takes the number of deaths in the country to 4, one each in Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Punjab. The total number of COVID cases in India now stands at 167.
Meanwhile, the Indian government has announced a lockdown throughout the entire country with the general public not allowed to come together in public gatherings. Schools, colleges, universities, malls have all been shut down at the moment.

Right now 25-30 people are working in the control room. They work in shifts. We are getting about 400 emails and 1000 calls in a day" Dammu Ravi, coordinator of COVID-19 at the Ministry of External Affairs, said.
Ravi further said that the ministry is aiming to rescue next batch of Indians from Italy this weekend, further saying that they have already evacuated nearly 600.
"We have evacuated 590 people from Iran where the situation is very severe. Indians infected with coronavirus in Iran have been segregated & taken care of very well. We believe they will recover& we will bring them back,".
Further addressing a press conference for the ministry Ravi urged the general public of the country to be safe and not move from one place to another.

A total of 9,020 deaths were recorded as per Worldometer reports, with 4,134 in Europe and 3,416 in Asia, where the outbreak first emerged in China in December.
