Himanshu Bansal, a 24-year-old businessman from Delhi died when he tried to avoid a pedestrian and crashed into the wall of the Lady Irwin College on Sikandra Road in Delhi on the eve of Independence Day. He was riding a Benelli TNT 600i and sources say he was racing his friend.

BK Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi said that a case has been registered under the section of causing death due to negligence and rash driving as per information given by eyewitnesses. He also added that his friends may be investigated as they too were riding rashly at the time of the accident.

Lakshay, one of the riders had a GoPro fitted to his helmet and he was able to record the incident which showed that Bansal was doing speeds of over 200 kmph and his bike started wobbling as he tried to avoid the pedestrian and he was thrown against the wall as his head and face was squashed from the impact.

A team of policemen from the Barakhamba Road police station arrived at the scene and Bansal was taken to JPN hospital where he was declared brought dead on arrival.

Bansal and his friends, Gazi and Lakshay, were partying at a club in Connaught Place and when leaving the party they decided to race to their homes in Vivek Vihar. Lakshay recorded the entire incident from the moment they left the club. He told the police that as they entered Sikandra Road they saw an old man crossing the road close to the Mandi House metro station and in an attempt to avoid the pedestrian, Bansal swerved right but his handle hit the old man’s waist causing Bansal to lose balance. Bansal flew nearly 50 meters before he hit the wall.

Bansal’s family said that he left home at 6 pm and made the last call to his mom and asked her if she wanted ice cream. Another passer-by took the old man to the hospital where he was treated and discharged shortly.
