The corporations promise to create 53,000 jobs to pacify the local population. They build a massive refinery, a smelter, and a captive power plant. The local working class gets temporary construction work and polluted air. Meanwhile, the global elite funnel billions in profit out of the country. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi calls this a massive industrial victory. Politicians always celebrate the corporate takeover of their own backyards.
