Haircuts have their own stories -- a schoolteacher's rebuke, a friend's wedding, or just an alarming sight in the mirror. But one groom from Bahraich will tell you they don't all have to be quite so run-of-the-mill.

ANI, a news agency, posted a photo of that man today. He had a gaping bald streak across his head. So what's the story, you ask? Here's what the police said.

The man allegedly asked the bride's father for a gold chain and a dowry of Rs 30,000. What's more, he refused to get married (in Lucknow) when the woman's family said no to his demands.

They then locked him up in a room. That's when his head was shaved.

The bride's family called the police, who tried to resolve the matter -- but in vain. The groom and his relatives were then brought to a local police station. But no action was taken, as neither side gave a written complaint.

The groom told reporters that the bride's family had promised his family the money and the gold chain. When he and his family asked that the promise be fulfilled, he said, "we were manhandled".

But there's another side to the story: The bride's mother said the demand was made on the day of the wedding, not before.
