Mumbai Customs Officers Execute Massive Gold And Drug Seizure Operation

A Four-Week Security Crackdown

Customs officers at Mumbai airport executed a massive security crackdown recently. They seized gold, dangerous narcotics, and luxury goods worth Rs908.9 million. This intense four-week operation led directly to 40 criminal arrests. The operation ran from September 7 through October 4 this year. Mumbai Customs Zone III reported 136 separate smuggling cases during this period. The massive haul included more than 18 kilograms of illicit gold. Officers also confiscated nearly 116 kilograms of illegal narcotics at the border. They seized 71 expensive iPhones and large quantities of undeclared foreign currency. Gold and dangerous drugs account for the absolute largest financial seizures. Officers recovered 18.04 kilograms of gold valued at a staggering Rs217.2 million. The narcotics weighed 115.68 kilograms and accounted for Rs591.1 million total. The seized drugs included hydroponic cannabis and highly restricted ketamine supplies.

Intercepting Luxury Contraband

Officers found 7.031 kilograms of ketamine worth Rs210.9 million on the black market. Customs officials included the ketamine in the overall narcotics financial valuation. Security personnel made these seizures during multiple daily inspections and enforcement operations. They operate out of the busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Customs also seized foreign currency worth a massive Rs25.2 million recently. They confiscated illegal diamonds valued at Rs15 million during routine luggage checks. Officers seized undeclared luxury watches worth Rs16 million from incoming international passengers. Other recoveries included 144,400 illegal cigarette sticks and expensive refurbished laptops.

Enforcing Strict National Laws

They even confiscated smuggled perfumes and premium saffron valued at Rs44.4 million. The wide range of confiscated items formed 136 distinct criminal cases. Mumbai Customs confirmed they arrested 40 people in connection with these crimes. The agency registered the cases under the strict Indian Customs Act.
