The popular encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma has returned to the police force after 9 years. He had a 25 year long career before he was dismissed from service in August 2008, where he killed 113 underworld gangsters in encounters. Reinstated by the Maharashtra government this Wednesday, Pradeep Sharma has been a popular cop in the city and a source of inspiration for many Bollywood movies as well.
Under the Section 311 of the Constitution, the government had set many enquiries on him along with a transfer to a remote area in Maharashtra. He had refused that stating health reasons. Thus, he was removed from the forces under the charge that he had connections with the underworld.
The allegations stemmed from the controversy around him being involved in the 2006 Lakhan Bhaiyya fake encounter case. In 2010, Sharma was arrested for his involvement in the case, but in July 2013 he was released shortly acquitted of all charges.
