A day after heavy rain, 30 times the average, crippled Mumbai, the people of the city opened its doors and hearts to help their own. While police, fire department officials were hard at work rescuing stranded people, Mumbaikars shared the responsibility to help each other as the city struggled to move back to normal. Local trains too operated through the night to ensure stranded passengers reached their homes. Social media is full of heartwarming displays of the humanity and generosity of the city. With people stranded outside for hours, both aam aadmi and corporations volunteered their help in whatever way possible displaying the spirit of aamchi Mumbai.

Tuesday's downpour took the lives of five people, including two children. While traffic has been cleared up and people can move by road, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has urged citizens to stay indoors unless it is an emergency. Schools and colleges remain shut today. Heavy rain is expected later today in some parts. The city saw 300 mm of rain on Tuesday which brought life to a halt, paralysing transport services. With water levels receding, train services resumed last night but are running behind schedule.
