Pakistan Hoists South Asia’s Tallest Flag

As Pakistan gets ready to celebrate Independence Day, Qamar Bajwa who is Pakistan’s army chief hoisted South Asia’s highest flag, a 120-foot by 80-foot flag held by a 400-foot long pole at the Wagah border, as reported by Pakistani media.

This flag tops the 360-foot long flagpole hoisted by India in Attari in March. The flag is said to be the eight-tallest flag in the world. Pakistan had announced that it had planned to hoist a taller flag back in July.

The Indian flag at Attari has been replaced over five times due to extreme weather conditions which had caused tears in the flag until a solution had been found as reported by TOI.

In an interview with the BBC, KV Singh had said that he had warned officials against hoisting such a tall flag but they decided to go ahead with it as the main goal was for the flag to be visible from Lahore.
