Shiv Sagar recently shared his personal reservations about this specific casting choice. Shiv Sagar is the grandson of the legendary filmmaker Ramanand Sagar. His grandfather famously created the iconic 1987 television series Ramayan. That television show deeply influenced how millions of Indians visualize the mythological epic. Shiv Sagar stated he finds it difficult to accept Kapoor as Lord Rama.
Evaluating The Casting Choices
He bases this hesitation on Kapoor's recent portrayal of a highly violent character. Kapoor recently starred in the controversial and aggressive action film Animal. Shiv Sagar believes the studio should have selected a fresh face for the role. He told journalists that audiences struggle to separate actors from their previous intense performances. He acknowledged that Kapoor remains a highly talented and dedicated professional actor. He clarified he holds absolutely no personal grudge against the Bollywood star. However, he feels iconic religious characters require actors with less cinematic baggage.
A Massive Two-Part Cinematic Epic
Shiv Sagar suggested that the studio chose Kapoor primarily for marketing purposes. Established stars bring massive audiences but also carry associations from their past roles. He did offer high praise for other members of the sprawling cast. He complimented Yash, who plays Ravana, and Sai Pallavi, who portrays Sita. He stated both of these actors appear highly convincing in their respective roles. Ultimately, he acknowledged his personal opinion will not dictate the film’s success. Audiences will have the final say when the movie reaches cinemas. The first part of Ramayana hits theaters this November. The studio plans to release the second part during Diwali 2027.
