Unraveling The Aarushi Talwar Murder

May 16, 2008, Aarushi Talwar, 14, is found dead with her throat cut open in her house in Jalvayu Vihar, Noida. The house help was initially suspected of committing the crime. 45-year-old Hemraj was found dead on the terrace of the Talwar’s lodging.

The police suspected the Talwars of killing both Hemraj and Aarushi coming to the conclusion that Rajesh Talwar had killed both of them in a fit of rage when he found them in bed together. Furious with the way the investigation was heading, the Talwars accused the cops of trying to conceal information.

Rajesh Talwar spent 2 months in jail before being granted bail.

The case was handed over to the CBI for inquiry and it took a turn when the investigating officers reached two different conclusions. In 2009, the case was handed over to a new team which said that the case should be closed as there were a lot of discrepancies in the case. The named Rajesh Talwar as the primary suspect but didn’t charge him as there was no substantial evidence against him.

The CBI special court rejected the appeal for the case to be closed and ordered a new investigation on the basis of evidence that had already been collected which led to Aarushi’s parents being convicted in 2013.

The Talwars have since been awarded a life sentence and are currently serving their term in Dasna jail, Ghaziabad.
