Video: Plane passengers refused to fly due to stinky smell of 2 tons of durian

An indonesian flight was delayed for about an hour on Monday, November 5, after plane passengers complained about a stench apparently caused by dozens of sacks of durian.

Passengers of a Sriwijaya Air flight from Bengkulu province in Sumatra to Jakarta, Indonesia complained to airport staff and refused to get on the plane because of the repulsive pungent of durian fruits.

Videos of the incident, uploaded online by Facebook user Amir Zidane, shows travellers going around as aircrew unload the cargo of durian.

According to reports, the airline admitted it was carrying more than two tons of the fruits but insisted they posed no danger to the flight. Moreover, they said that its smell would dissipate once the aircraft took off.

“Durian is not classified as a hazardous material to be transported on a plane,” Sriwijaya Air official Abdul Rahim told.

Airport staff decided to unload the fruits after the complaints, and the flight took off an hour later and landed safely in Jakarta.
