After Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys, Bengaluru-based software services major Wipro has chartered special flights to bring home more than 500 employees from the US, the UK and Australia whose visas have expired or are nearing expiry amid the current coronavirus-induced crisis. It is worth mentioning here that this comes nearly a week after Infosys similarly chartered a special flight to fly back 76 staff and their families—a total of 206 people—in the US.
Infosys associate vice-president Sanjeev Bode in a LinkedIn post had said: “Some of the Infosys employees were stranded in the US because of their visa expiration … Infosys came to their rescue. The company booked a chartered flight exclusively for over 200 employees and families from the US to India ..."
TCS has also facilitated the return of approximately 500 employees from the US. Milind Lakkad, TCS global HR head, had said the overall repatriation is close to 900 people across different countries. Likewise, Tech Mahindra on Monday, chartered a special flight to fly home 210 employees and their dependants stranded in the US.
Saurabh Govil, Wipro’s president and chief human resources officer, told TOI: “A special flight carrying over 100 employees from New York landed in Bengaluru on Tuesday (July 14). We are also chartering flights to bring back our employees from London and Germany.”
