Man fakes his death on Facebook in a bid to cash-in for funeral costs

A man in Thailand faked his own death on Facebook and duped his family to rake in cash for funeral costs. Tachawit Janngiw along with his wife set up a plan to fool his family and announced his death through a remembrance page on Facebook.

Janngiw's wife posted pictures of his 'dead body' showing him lying on the floor with cotton wool shoved up his nose. ?Last photo before deactivating his Facebook - Love you," his wife wrote.

The wife had told their friends that Janngiw died of cancer and asthma, the Mirror quoted Coconuts Bangkok reports.

Janngiw's wife then called his mother and asked for money to pay for his funeral.

Speaking to local media, the mother revealed that Janngiw's wife had asked for money to bring back his body to Lampang province and so she sent her 20,000 Thai Baht.

Not only that, the mother claimed that the family made arrangements at a local temple for funeral but the body never arrived.\

That's when Janngiw's cousin called him on his mobile phone and was stunned to hear Janngiw answer the call. Janngiw's family claimed to have lost 60,000 THB on the funeral and his mother told the local media that she has cut all ties with her son.

While, the 'fake' remembrance page on Facebook is still up.
