Video: Sleeping man gets stuck on bridge as it rises

A man sleeping on Florida drawbridge woke up to find the bridge rising and struggled to keep his balance. The dramatic incident was captured by a woman walking down the road at 6.30 am on Tuesday when she noticed a man sleeping on the South Miami Avenue bridge.

Khadija Andrews of Miami said she heard chiming bells ringing moments before the drawbridge raised up and thought of the man sleeping there. "By the time I hit Brickell City Centre, I could start hearing the bells, so I turned around and something made me think of the guy," UPI quoted Andrews as saying in WVSN-TV, adding, "I was like, 'Did he get off? Where is he?' And I realized I never saw him get up and walk away."

Andrews captured the moments the man slowly started to slide down the bridge but he safely grabbed onto a railing, which kept him from falling until the bridge lowered again.

Andrews told that she and other witnesses attempted to warn the bridge operator but were unable to get his attention. "So we're literally witnessing the guy slide down as he's sleeping," Andrews said, adding that after bridge lowered the man was able to walk away and was not seriously injured.

Recounting a similar incident, Andrews said she was once stuck on a downtown drawbridge herself. "I was running and I guess the guy didn't see me. I got stuck on the bridge and I ended up having to sprint and run over the arm guard."
